MORNING STAR CHRISTIAN SCHOOL AND SELBOURNE PARK CHRISTIAN CHURCH: BRIDGING THE EDUCATIONAL GAP THROUGH COMMUNITY OUTREACH
Selbourne Park Christian Church in partnership with Morning Star Christian School, has launched a Community Outreach Program designed to support children from underprivileged homes who fell back academically due to the disruptions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. Many of these children faced significant learning gaps, preventing them from reintegrating into formal schooling with confidence.
The cross over program serves as a bridge, equipping them with the essential skills needed to re-enter the education system and succeed.
Faith in Action
As a Christ-centred institution, Morning Star Christian School is committed to extending the love of Christ beyond our classrooms. This initiative is more than just academics; it is an expression of faith in action, ensuring that no child is left behind due to circumstances beyond their control.
By teaming-up with Selbourne Park Christian Church, we are reinforcing the belief that education is not a privilege for the few but a God-given right for all. Through dedicated teachers, compassionate mentors and a supportive learning environment, we are breaking barriers and empowering young minds for a brighter future.

MORNING STAR CHRISTIAN SCHOOL’S STUDENT-LED SHOE DRIVE
Education should extend beyond the classroom, we believe that it is a call to serve, uplift and impact lives. This belief was brought to life through a remarkable student-led initiative: a shoe drive that provided much-needed footwear to children at Dakamela Primary School in Nkayi.
On the 31st of January 2025, in partnership with Khanya Be the Light, Morning Star students helped distribute over 122 pairs of shoes to children who had been attending school barefoot due to the harsh socio-economic effects of a prolonged drought.
Walking in Compassion: The Heart of the Initiative
The shoe drive was born out of a desire to make a tangible difference in the lives of children who lack basic necessities. Many students at Dakamela Primary School faced the daily challenge of walking long distances on rough terrain without proper footwear, affecting their comfort, confidence and ability to focus in class.
Moved by this reality, Morning Star students took action, organising a donation campaign that resulted in:
- 89 pairs for primary school children
- 24 pairs for infants (0-2 years)
- 9 pairs for older girls (size 3 and above)
With the help of Dakamela Primary School teachers, children in need were identified beforehand, ensuring that the distribution was organised, efficient and impactful.
Faith in Action: More Than Just Shoes
This initiative was not just about providing footwear, it was about restoring dignity, self-esteem and HOPE to children who often feel forgotten.
Guided by Proverbs 19:17 “Whoever is generous to the poor lends to the Lord, and He will repay him for his deed,” Morning Star students demonstrated what it means to live out Christian compassion and selflessness. Their willingness to give back reflects the school’s commitment to service, generosity and community transformation.
The Power of Student Leadership
This initiative showcased the power of youth-driven change. Morning Star students took ownership of the project— planning, collecting and delivering donations, proving that even small acts of kindness can have a lasting impact.
A Lasting Impact on the Community
The shoe distribution program was more than a charitable act; it was a beacon of solidarity and hope for the Nkayi community. By meeting a fundamental need, the initiative empowered children to pursue their education with confidence, reinforcing that they are seen, valued and supported.
A Call to Continue Giving
Morning Star Christian School remains committed to community outreach and service. The success of this shoe drive is a testament to the power of collective generosity, and we encourage students, parents, and partners to continue making a difference, one step at a time.
